Nobuhle Zikhali is a 23 years old woman from Diepsloot Johannesburg. In February 2019 she was raped by her cousin in front of her son at night and the family told her not to report him. COVID-19 has affected her badly she had no income since she was an assistant at a pre-school and the schools were closed, she survived on her son’s social grant. She had to move back home because there was nothing left for her in Johannesburg. She takes part in organisations like Lifting Africa to help women who are victims of Gender Based Violence like her.
We look at Gender Based Violence during lockdown and having to be locked with the perpetrator during the level 5 and 4 lockdowns affected her and her mental health. How many more women went through GBV during lockdown and were helpless most of the time, we look at how the government dealt with those issues.
